Out-of-town deliveries exempt from Ordinance T

Oxnard--The discussion of the Ordinance regulating Expanded Polystyrene continues with Councilman Bert Perello asking Planning & Sustainability Manager Kathleen Mallory if someone buys products from a wholesaler and needs something packaged that includes delicate instruments in Styrofoam, will it prevent people from buying those products?

THE Council ap­pro­ved the Ordinance Tuesday, January 3.

Polystyrene Plastic includes Styrofoam and rigid polystyrene plastic, which is used for food and product packaging and is not processible at waste collection facilities.

“If a product is shipped into the City, but the box is not opened, and the item is not repackaged,” Mallory said. “Shipping that product into the City would be exempt.”

She said if a warehouse, manufacturer, or distributor produces something in Oxnard or receives a product and repackages it, that process in the City requires Ordinance compliance.

Councilman Gabe Teran thanked Mallory and her team for all their work on the Ordinance and asked her to address the carve-outs in the Ordinance regarding seafood and fresh fish.
