Peterbilt Vacuum Truck moves to Council

Oxnard-- The Public Works & Transportation Committee approved a Vacuum Truck purchase order with Rush Truck Centers during its Tuesday, October 24, meeting.

WASTEWATER Division Manager Jan Hauser presented the purchase order and said the agreement authorizes City Manager Alex Nguyen to execute the purchase order for the Wastewater Division vacuum truck totaling $471,763.

He said the City’s current vacuum truck is from 2003 and over 20 years old.

“We use this vehicle to pump out lift stations wet wells, and we clean vaults and underground utilities with this truck,” he said. “Most importantly, we use it to respond to emergencies at lift stations and other emergencies out in the collection system.”

He said the vacuum truck requires Department of Transportation certification annually.

Hauser displayed a picture of the current truck and said it looked “pretty worn out.”

 

“It is past its useful life,” he said. “The tank is what gets certified, and it is currently failing, and it’s been costly to repair and keep certified.”

He said it operates in a harsh environment, and a vacuum truck lasting 20 years means it’s had a useful life .“The vehicle itself, the mechanical components have been unreliable, and the costs…
