PH approves Hopkins service agreement

Port Hueneme-- The City Council, Monday, October 17, approved a professional services agreement with Hopkins Groundwater Consultants.

The agreement covers the Emergency Water Well 6A’s rehabilitation and will not exceed $51,300. The City has two emergency wells, 4A, built in 1974, and 6A, built in 1964, which have not been maintained well enough to operate in an emergency.

Public Works Director Don Villafana presented the item and said the emergency water wells needed to be reactivated or destroyed.

“These wells provide emergency backup in the event of a disruption to city water supplies,” he said. “The state water project system has vulnerabilities, and Oxnard/ Hueneme pipeline has capacity unless it is interrupted. The City of Oxnard water system cannot supply water if the State Water System is interrupted. They do not have the well capacity.”

He said Well 6A is on Channel Islands Boulevard, close to Skunkmasters Dispensary, and Well 4A is in Bubbling Springs Park. Well 4A has a 1,200 feet depth. Well 6A has a depth of about 1,100 feet.
