Port Hueneme-- The City Council Tuesday, January 17, approved the design and replacement of a new sidewalk along Scott Street between Ponoma and 2nd streets.
The motion was amended to allow the City to retain the sidewalk if the property sale transpires in the future and establishes it as a high priority. The sidewalk issue will be discussed in a future closed session.
Mayor Bobby Martinez recused himself because he lives within 500 feet of the project, so Mayor Pro Tem Misty Perez took over and introduced Public Works Department Principal Engineer Charles Cable.
Cable said the sidewalk had been described as a waking path for the Mar Vista Apartment Complex residents.
“There is about 70 feet of sidewalk at the intersection of Scott Street and Ponoma and then it ends abruptly to a dirt path,” he said. “The dirt path continues for approximately 200 feet, and a kind of sidewalk resumes.”
He said constructing a new sidewalk will require minor grading and constructing 200 linear feet of a new concrete walkway.
