Port Hueneme-- Port Hueneme VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) Post 3935 played host to a special fundraiser honoring Rudy “Speedy” Moraga Sunday, August 21.
Attendees enjoyed plates of chicken with lots of sides, with the proceeds going to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to bring educational programs to schools and employers and increase understanding of what it is and how to help somebody.
The crowd feasted on chicken purchased by the VFW, and those who didn’t know about the fundraiser were drawn in by the smell of barbecued chicken filling the air. American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Board Member Jenna Moraga is proud to honor her father with a fundraiser in his name.
“I lost my dad in 2014, and that’s why we’re doing a fundraiser for him,” she said. “We’re raising money for our specific team. We have a walk here in Ventura County; that’s what we’re raising the funds for.”
She said one of the VFW bartenders would have the event at one of Rudy’s hangouts, Sam’s Saloon, and that location closed.
