Ventura—The Board of Supervisors, Tuesday, March 24, heard a presentation from Public Defender Claudia Bautista.
Board Chairman Jeff Gorell introduced Bautista, who said public defense is a part of the State’s Constitution.
“It’s a core part of our Republic, and today we recognize a group of professionals whose work is essential to the fair and just system,” he said. “It’s an honor to present the Public Defense Day Proclamation to Claudia Bautista and her dedicated team.”
The team is the best in the nation, and he said they do more with less, and do so many different things to support this community and provide the defense they deserve.
“Justice should never depend on someone’s ability to pay,” he said. “The right to Counsel is a cornerstone of our Democracy, and one that must be upheld for every community member.”
Bautista recognized March 18 as Public Defender Day, and she brought in treats to recognize the hard work they do every day while serving the community.
