Oxnard-- The City of Oxnard’s Public Works Department hosted a fun, family-friendly Open House Thursday, May 25, as attendees learned about trash, tree trimming, sewers across the City, how they work, and checked out some big dump trucks.
THE kids enjoyed interactive booths, received educational items, got hands-on with the GAP (Graffiti Action Plan) Crew during the graffiti removal demonstration, and much more.
Mayor John Zaragoza worked for Public Works decades ago and said Public Works provides an important community service.
“They work with water, wastewater, and refuse collection,” he said. “Public Works does all our streets, our parks, our medians, and of course, they are involved with Facilities and Maintenance. Public Works is the biggest department we have in Oxnard.”
He said with the lifeline items, facilities not funded and working properly means Oxnard is in trouble.
“Residents don’t realize the importance of those lifeline items,” he said. “We have a lot of equipment here today, ranging from tree topping equipment to water, wastewater, and environmental services. We have our mechanics here who are important and keep our facilities going.”
He said the budget workshop reviewed how the City spends its money correctly and efficiently for residents.
