Redistricting meeting offers lots of positive input

Oxnard-- The city council held a special meeting about redistricting the city on Thursday, January 6.

THE meeting included submitted maps proposing district changes, and residents commented on those maps.

The council encourages people to keep submitting more maps and noted that council members represent the entire city.

The city is about halfway through the redistricting process that began in July 2020, which included delays in the process because of the census bureau and the State of California.

Assistant City Attorney Ken Rozell introduced Kristen Parks from National Demographics Corporation (NDC), and she gave an overview of redistricting and presented the proposed maps submitted by the public.

“These six maps, three were presented by members of the public,” Rozell said. “In addition, the city’s demographer prepared three maps for the city council’s consideration. This is consistent with their practice with other municipal clients.”

Parks gave the public a quick overview of the redistricting process and reminded everyone that the city recently changed from at-large to district elections.
