Oxnard--The Eighth Annual Ron Helus Ride for the Blue, Saturday, May Saturday, May 6, was a triumphant event honoring Sergeant Ron Helus, who was killed in the line of duty on November 7, 2018, while responding to a call in Thousand Oaks.
THE ride also honors First Responders across Ventura County.
Proceeds from the event benefitted the Oxnard Police Community Foundation, which paid for the riders’ lunch while they were in Oxnard.
Ride for the Blue Founder John “Bulldog” Short said the event started with 25 riders eight years ago and is still growing.
“This is an amazing event,” he said. “The Men and Women who go out every day to protect and serve us and know they may not go home to their families; it’s amazing all the people coming out today to support this and raise money for mental health awareness for First Responders.”
He said Ron Helus was a God-Fearing man that would put others before himself.

“What he would do the night that the shots were called, he would ask others to stand down so he could go to the shots fired call,” Short said. “He did the best he could do to protect others.”
