Rock-a-Thon aids Guide Dogs of America

Oxnard—The Fraternal Order of the Eagles are welcoming 2026, with its Annual New Year’s Day Rock-a-Thon, in memory of Rene Reeves, a past Madame President.

THE Rock-a-Thon is chaired by Peggy Duske, and she said Reeves was lost about 20 years ago, and the event generally raises about $200 in donations.

“Reeves was an animal lover, so we took on the seeing eye dogs, which are now called the Guide Dogs of America,” Duske said. “Every year, we bring a rocking chair, and at least two or three show up, and we ask for donations from our membership.”

The Rock-a-Thon has been going on for at least 20 years, and Peggy has been involved for the last 10 years, in honor of Reeves.

“We’re wearing our Jammies, because Rene would not like us dressed up,” Peggy said. “We do know friends near and dear, who have lost their sight, and maybe one day, they’ll get a Dog. It’s an inspiration to help out.”

 

Shelly Knappenberger cooked the black-eyed peas, and she took over after Dianne was lost 5-6 years ago.
