Channel Islands--Runners took to the streets for a good cause Sunday, December 11, as the Santa to the Sea Half Marathon had some rain early, but the sun came through and brightened the day.
THE charity event supports over 3,000 low-income children. The runners’ registration fees work to provide for the community year-round.
There was also an unwrapped toy donation benefitting children.
Entrants prepared diligently, as some were serious runners, while others simply enjoyed participating in the event.
The event included a Half and Quarter Marathon, a 5K, a Kids 1K, a Diaper Dash, and Costume Contest.
Before the race, runners got some energy from the Driscoll Fruit Stand.
District Manager Moises Hurtado said the company brought 5,000 cups of fruit to the race.
“We’re really excited, Sarah Magee, who works with the strawberry breeding team, said. “We work here in this community, and getting the opportunity to come here and represent ourselves and give back a little bit to everyone is what we want to do.”
She said berry selection for the event is a big process, but they had a large turnout.
