School Mask Mandate ends after March 11

Oxnard-- In his report to the City Council Tuesday, March 1, City Manager Alex Nguyen said that the Ventura County Office of Education has announced that its mask mandates for students will end after March 11.

“If you would like more information about that, please visit the Ventura County Office of Education website, vcoe.org/ covid-19,” he said.

He reminded the audience that California’s State of Emergency is extended until March 31.

“Could it actually end at the end of the month? Let’s all keep our fingers crossed and hope so,” he said.

He said the state’s next phase for confronting the pandemic is called California Smarter.

“They’re continuing to focus on people getting the shots, wearing a mask properly, and continued awareness, readiness, testing, education, and medication,” he said. “This is the way forward in California in terms of ending this pandemic.”

As of March 1, he said masks are not required but are strongly recommended for unvaccinated people in most indoor settings.

“There are caveats to that, so you want to look at the Department of Health’s website, cdph.ca.gov,” he said.

He said Ventura County will continue with small business and nonprofit enterprise grants.
