Speed Humps can help police

Oxnard-- The City of Oxnard’s proposed Speed Hump program continues with Committee Chairman Bert Perello saying it takes a lot for the member of the public to get in touch with the City, and it’s “extremely easy for someone on social media to go bombs away on the City.”

THE Public Works& Transportation Committee approved the proposed Speed Hump Program Saturday, September 17.

The program is a traffic calming tool that enhances pedestrian and driver safety, reduces speeding, and cuts down the residential street through traffic.

“I’m guessing it’s 10 or 15 to 1; that’s the way that happens because we get clobbered on social media,” Perello said. “When you reach out, and you finally get somebody at night working on a keyboard, it doesn’t do any good. I’ve had a change of opinion about 200 over five years. That is a lot.”

Public Works Director Michael Wolfe said there is a 10-15 miles percent speed reduction when speed humps are used in the right location.

“They can also reduce cut-through traffic,” he said. “People who try to make up time will find out that it’s not a time saver in those locations.” Wolfe noted that Speed Humps should…
