Ventura-- The Board of Supervisors, Tuesday, March 8, adopted a resolution by a 3-2 vote to request support from Ventura County State Legislators to provide relief from the local and transaction and use tax cap in revenue & Taxation Code 72151.1 with a .5 percent cap.
THE item was brought forward by Chair Carmen Ramirez, who said the state legislature allows the voters to vote on whether or not the tax should be adopted for any particular purpose.
During public comments, David Pollock said he is part of Ventura County Citizens for Traffic Relief, and they are working on putting a .5 cent sales tax on the ballot so they can have money in transportation projects that are going on all over the state.
“As supervisors Parks and Ramirez know at SCAG, I represent the cities of Simi Valley, Moorpark, and Thousand Oaks,” he said. “We are well known as the only county in Southern California that doesn’t have a half-cent sales tax to support local transportation projects, and as a result, we’ve missed out on a lot of matching grants.
