Supervisors Honor Cougars State Champs

Ventura—The Board of Supervisors, Tuesday, March 3, welcomed the Ventura Cougars to the Boardroom and honored them for the 2025 CIS Division Championship.

Supervisor Matt LaVere introduced many of the coaching members, team staff, members, and members of the administration.

“They played a school down south, Saint Matias Academy in the Division 6 game, and they won, and they won that game in a record-breaking romp,” he said. “It was the third time the Cougars have won the Championship, but the first time in 25 years, and it was the most points scored by a Ventura County Team by a CIF Team.

They were led by Senior Captains, he said. Tristen Savage, Derek Garcia, and Jack Cumminghan said they demonstrated leadership and perseverance throughout the playoffs.

“Football is a team sport, and it takes every member of the team, and a contribution from every single member of the team, and I want to recognize each one of you for the role you played in achieving this incredible milestone,” he said.

He honored Head Coach Tom Garcia with a historic 13-3 record, who passed the record for the most career wins in program history.
