Sustainable Traffic Plan ok’d by Council

Oxnard--The City Council Tuesday, June 29, approved its Sustainable Traffic Plan (STP), which imagines a new future for the City’s transportation needs moving forward.

Public Works Director Michael Wolfe introduced the plan, which is operational and tries and understand where the opportunities are in the City to go from vehicle-centered transportation modes to alternate modes, like bicycles.

“This is a culmination of two years of work, and most of the funding for this project came from Cal Trans from a grant,” he said. “This is a long-term planning document and is not to be implemented tomorrow. It’s going to take some time to look at the strategies and make some implementation decisions on that, with resources and funding to follow.”

Rachel Om from Fehr & Peers presented the item to the Council and said the transportation plan’s goal is to improve transportation in the City by shifting from driving to being more people-oriented.

“It still includes people driving but expands to include people walking, biking, and riding transit,” she said. “To achieve this, we established an understanding of where people travel, what works well, and what can be improved for how people travel.”
