Channel Islands-- The Channel Islands Maritime Museum got into the Holiday spirit grandly as the venue hosted its 4th Annual Holiday Lighting of the Tall Ship Mast Lighting, after missing a year because of Covid, in the courtyard Saturday, December 3.
THE Museum’s special guest, Santa Claus himself, lit the Tall Ship mast while the crowd cheered.
The event featured band Coco Knots, who provided the sea backdrop to the evening, along with the Mystic Whaler, which hosted free public deck tours. Attendees danced, enjoyed the evening, and visited the gift shop looking for Maritime-themed Holiday gifts.
Board of Trustees President Susan O’Brien ran the event and said the Tall Mast Ship Lighting is an event she’s always dreamed about having.
“I’ve watched too many Hallmark movies,” she joked. “What makes it special is instead of lighting a Christmas tree, like they do downtown, we’re lighting the Tall Ship Mast.”

She said it’s the first year the event was professionally decorated as they raised the money from community sponsors.
