The Beach Festival is fun in precipitation

Port Hueneme—The Annual Hueneme Beach Festival had a little precipitation on Sunday. July 13, but residents and neighboring communities came out ready to dance and party.

THE Festival featured great music, community action, food, and young people learning to improve, mentored by the Port Hueneme Police Department.

Senior Officer Henry Montelongo had 12 cadets at the Festival, at the information booth, water booth, or handling security at the perimeter.

“We have an application you can download and drop off at the Police Department,” he said. “We make sure the kids get great grades, and if their grades are below the standard, 2.0 or lower, we’ll work with the child and get them into the program.”

The last program was in Chandler, Arizona, and he said they didn’t bring back any trophies, but it was a good learning experience.

“We have a brand new crew, and we are making corrections for our next competition in October,” he said. “We hosted the core academy with the Oxnard Police Department.

“It was a four-week academy and gave them a taste of what the real academy is about,” he said. “We had five graduates, and they’re all working here today.”
