Port Hueneme-- It was a great Sunday afternoon at VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) Post 3935, March 13, as the Post welcomed The Waves for an afternoon of fun and music.
THE crowd enjoyed some great Rock n Roll and, as always, the great fellowship that had people feeling like they were part of a family.
Post Commander Clay Cowgill said the Post is trying to expand its horizons.
“We’re trying to go out of the box and do some stuff we haven’t done before to see if we can get some interest in doing a little bit of fundraising for our charity programs,” he said.
Cowgill said he’d love to see his soldier brothers utilize the services offered by the VFW.
“In January 2016, our state legislature passed an assembly bill that actually allows us to admit to our Canteen facilities during business hours, not just members of the VFW, but members who have honorably served who can present some type of credential,” he said. “There are about 60 other organizations that would qualify. Because our particular Post has a catering license, we are in the business of selling food; we can open events to the general public.”
