Oxnard-- The Public Works and Transportation Committee, Tuesday, June 14, approved an agreement for on-call traffic signal repair and maintenance services.
The $300,000 agreement with Taft Electric Company spans three years and covers the city’s 175 traffic signals.
City Engineer Tatiana Arnout presented the item, and she said the city has only three staff positions to maintain all the signals in the city.
“We need to perform semi-annual and annual preventative maintenance that is primarily done by our city staff,” she said. “What we’re using this on-call contractor for is to supplement their capabilities with the ability to perform repairs that we just simply don’t have in-house expertise.”
The city doesn’t have the equipment to perform the work, she said; with only three staff members, they don’t have the capacity to get the work done.
“This helps us create some protection here because they would also be able to respond to emergency work, along with any scheduled repairs and maintenance, as well,” Arnout said. “Should we need them, we can call them out if there is any kind of outage at our traffic signals or if anything needs to be looked at.”
