Ventura Council Advisory Groups Get Details

Ventura — The Council Advisory Groups article from Tuesday, June 9, continues with City Clerk Michael MacDonald stating that the current appointment process is enshrined in our Municipal Code.

COMMUNITY Development Director Rachel Dimond said that if the City Council selects option one, which eliminates the DRC (Design Review Committee) and assigns them to the Planning Commission, the Planning Commission will start with a draft ordinance for a recommendation in August.

“There will be a first reading at City Council in September,” she said. “There will be a second reading in October, and because this impacts the Coastal Zone, we would need to submit a Local Coastal Plan Amendment, or an LCPA, to the California Coastal Commission, and that process typically takes about a year,” she said. “It could take a little less time, and unfortunately, it could take a little bit longer, and it just depends on the workload of the Coastal Commission Staff at the time we submit the LCPA.”

There are similar timelines for option two. She said that in January of 2027, should the City Council decide to retain the DRC but limit its review to a simple public hearing project, it would appoint new DRC members based on a…
