Oxnard-- It was a tremendous showing of Veteran Pride at Plaza Park Friday, November 11, as the City of Oxnard held a special Veteran’s Day celebration full of tributes to America’s fighting forces.
The event featured Patriotic Music, an honor guard, Courtesy of the Vietnam Veterans of Ventura County, a raffle with prizes, a special tribute to World War II Vet George Ford, who celebrated his 96th birthday, and many tributes to how vital America’s Forces are to the Country.
Father Charlie led the event off and prayed and gathered as a grateful nation in tribute to the people who serve in the Armed Forces.
“Let’s extend our heartfelt gratitude to their courage and selflessness for those among us today and those of generations past,” he said.
Mayor John Zaragoza told the crowd that Veteran’s Day is a beautiful day in the City, and he thanked the Vietnam committee for their outstanding work.
“This doesn’t happen because of happenstance,” he said. “It happens because of a lot of work.”
He said they come together to honor and recognize service members from the past and present.
