Wheels & Waves glides toward Easter

Channel Islands—It was a beautiful Sunday morning, March 2, as this month’s Wheels & Waves brought more of the same: plenty of cars, dogs, hot rodders, coffee, and donuts.

LIKE always, the day featured plenty of fantastic Rock n Roll music from classic bands like the Average White Band and others, along with Oxnard College’s Automotive Technician School offering a great career.

The group is led by Fireball Tim Lawrence, who brings art to the Harbor.

Michael Gabriel brought his all-original 1948 Ford Woody to the show.

“The wood is all original, and I converted it to 12 volts to make it easy to work on,” he said. “I’ve owned it for over 25 years. There’s an original flat-head V8 under the hood with a stick and reproduction tires.”

He’s from Camarillo, where he and his wife discovered treasure.

“We were looking for surfboards; it’s a good surfboard holder, so it came home with us,” Chris said.

Michael used to live in West L.A., a hamburger place became Teddy’s, and a guy came in with a Woody.

“I had never seen one, and I thought, wow,” he said. “It stuck in my mind.”

“Everybody loves the Woodie,” Chris said.
