Oxnard--Consistency, flavor, health, and planning are the key ingredients food service workers deliver daily at the Wilson Senior Center.
THE team works together closely like a family and shares a passion about caring for Oxnard’s Seniors.
Senior Nutrition Program Manager Fernando Garcia leads the team and said the Senior menu is consistent throughout the year, approved by the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging, which has dieticians planning the menu.
“They keep it low sodium, no salt, that is geared to the people who have Diabetes,” Garcia said. “We provide salt for the people to add it themselves.”
He said exercise is a vital part of the overall health plan for the Seniors, which includes the seated Tai Chi Class offered at 10:30 a.m. each Monday.
“We offer another Tai Chi Class from 9:30-10:30 on Wednesdays and Fridays,” he said. “We also offer Zumba videos because there is a challenge to finding an instructor right now.”

Garcia said an ideal kitchen employee is consistently on time and understands the dietary restrictions the City must work with.
“They want to add because they’re chefs and good at what they do, but you have to operate under the restrictions,” he said.
