Ventura—The City of Ventura’s Historic Preservation Committee, on Thursday, August 13, approved the Minnie P. Gales residence, located at the corner of Poli and Ash streets, at 793 Poli.
ASSISTANT Planner Ruby Triguero presented the item, which is located within the Downtown Specific Plan and Coastal Protection Zone.
“The Minnie P. Gales residence (the residence) was constructed in 1910, during the City expansion and civic improvement period, known for the expansion of residential development east of the San Buenaventura Mission,” she said. “The residence was constructed as a 2,316 sq. ft. 1.5-story single-family dwelling by master Architect Oliver M. Gales.”
Following construction, she said the Gales family would occupy the residence, and it would be named after Oliver and his wife, Minnie.
“Over the years, the residence has seen minor modifications, including the addition of a detached carport located in the rear of the property enclosure of the southeastern recessed corner porch, and the conversion of the residence to a multi-family structure now three units,” Triguero said.
She said the residence has been identified in three historic surveys: the 1983 Cultural Heritage Survey, the 2007 Downtown Specific Area Historic Survey Update, and the most recently adopted 2025 Citywide Historic…
