Touch-a-Truck mixes Education and fun

Port Hueneme-- Area residents flocked to Hueneme Beach Saturday, October 1, as the Premiere of the Touch-a-Truck brought plenty of kids and parents to the free event.

THE event featured plenty of trucks for the kids to touch, honk the big horn, and sit in the driver’s seat while they learned about each vehicle, what they do, and why they are vital to each community.

City of Port Hueneme Recreation Coordinator Taylor Penny was thrilled by the great turnout.

“This is our first time ever doing this,” she said. “I’ve been working very hard for the past five months on this, and it’s great to see all these people out on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.”

She likes all the trucks but thinks the crane is pretty cool, along with the SWAT Vehicles.

“The kids get a chance to go in and learn and fill that gap where they think the police are scary, but the police are here to help and protect you,” she said. “There are lots of learning opportunities down the street here with different career opportunities; fire, police, school bus, crane operators, semi drivers.
