Oxnard-- The City of Oxnard PAL (Police Athletic League) stepped up and provided lots of local families turkeys for Thanksgiving and had a lot of help accomplishing the task.
PARTICIPANTS registered for the event, which was mandatory, and lots of volunteers delivered the birds in the back seat of people’s cars as they stopped by.
Gold Coast Health Plan was also on-hand delivering Covid-19 vaccinations to anybody who wasn’t protected.
Recreation Leader Adriana Britt said they brought 152 turkeys to the parking lot across from the PAL on K Street Thursday, November 18. The group also distributed turkeys at Del Sol Park and the Oxnard PAL Center at Southwinds Park.
The turkeys were a blessing as there is a turkey shortage this holiday season.
“Within the span of the three days, we’ll be giving out 500 turkeys,” Britt said. “We called the turkey fairy this year.”
She said the city ordered its turkeys from Smart and Final.
“We placed the order awhile back, and they helped sponsor some of the turkeys, along with the Carpenter’s Union and Gold Coast Health Plan,” she said.
